  69. This package contains Cumberland Story (Version 1.2), by Cumberland
  70. Family Software.  This document contains only a brief description of the
  71. package and its features, along with instructions for its installation.
  72. Quite detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in
  73. archived form, and is more easily read after installation.

  75. Cumberland Story is a shareware program.  This evaluation version
  76. includes all features of the program, and is not crippled in any way.
  77. You may use it for up to 30 days, without charge. If you like the
  78. program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you
  79. are required to pay for the program (see ORDER.TXT for more details).
  80. Any fee you may have paid to others (disk vendors, dealers, etc.) to
  81. obtain this evaluation version was a fee for their copying and
  82. distribution services, rather than a payment for continued use of the

  131. ===== Installation =====================================
  132.  
  133. The installation procedure for Cumberland Story is quite simple.  The
  134. package includes a program, "INSTALL.EXE", which automates the entire
  135. process.  You will need about 800K of available disk space on the hard
  136. drive on which you plan to install the program.
  137.  
  138. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  139. Cumberland Story.
  140.  
  141. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  142.  
  143. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  144.  
  145.    o  Place the distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the appropriate
  146.       diskette drive.
  147.  
  148.    o  Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program on the distribution diskette.
  149.       For example, if the distribution diskette is on drive A:, you must
  150.       change to drive a: by entering "a:" then type the install command,
  151.       "install".
  152.  
  153.    o  Follow the instructions presented by the installation program. You
  154.       will have a chance to approve installation before any changes are
  155.       actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The program
  156.       will ask you for a destination directory, and will copy the
  157.       Cumberland Story to that directory. It will make no other changes;
  158.       specifically, it will not modify your autoexec.bat or config.sys
  159.       files.

  161. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  162.  
  163. If you downloaded Cumberland Story from a BBS (or received it in the
  164. form of archive files from some other source), you will need to perform
  165. the following steps.
  166.  
  167.    o  Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a sub directory.
  168.       The procedure for doing this varies, depending on the form in
  169.       which you received the package. In all likelihood, the fact that
  170.       you are reading this text means that you already have the
  171.       necessary tools and knowledge to perform this step. If not, you
  172.       should be able to obtain directions for this from the same source
  173.       from which you received the package. You do not need to run the
  174.       INSTALL program, as it is not part of the package and is only
  175.       distributed on diskette.

  177. YOU'RE READY TO GO
  178.  
  179. Once you've complete the installation, you can then start the program by
  180. entering CSTORY. Since there is extensive on-line help, you do not need
  181. to read the documentation first. You can access the on-line help at any
  182. time by pressing F1. We hope you enjoy the program.

  214. Cumberland Story is NOT a public domain program.  It is copyrighted by
  215. Cumberland Family Software.  This software and accompanying
  216. documentation are protected by United States Copyright law and also by
  217. International Treaty provisions.

  219. Cumberland Family Software grants you a limited license to use this
  220. software for evaluation purposes for a period not to exceed thirty days.
  221. If you continue using this software after the thirty-day evaluation
  222. period, you MUST make a registration payment to Cumberland Family
  223. Software.

  225. LIMITED DISTRIBUTION LICENSE

  227. INDIVIDUALS may distribute Cumberland Story to friends or associates,
  228. provided they charge no fees for this service, and they convey a

  238. Diskette Vendors should be aware that the provided INSTALL program
  239. requires a label of "CSTORY 1-1" (without quotes) to work properly.
  240. A "diskcopy" will copy the label in addition to the files. Otherwise
  241. you must use the DOS label command.

  243. You may not use, copy, rent, lease, sell, modify, decompile,
  244. disassemble, otherwise reverse engineer, or transfer the licensed
  245. program except as provided in this agreement.  Any such unauthorized
  246. use shall result in immediate and automatic termination of this license.

  248. Permission to distribute the Cumberland Story package is not
  249. transferable, assignable, saleable, or franchisable.  Each vendor
  250. wishing to distribute the package must independently satisfy the terms
  251. of this limited distribution license.

  253. U.S. Government Information:  Use, duplication, or disclosure by the
  254. U.S. Government of the computer software and documentation in this
  255. package shall be subject to the restricted rights applicable to
